Peter Wohlfahrt, MD, PhD
In my practice, I focus on the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases, helping patients reduce their risk of heart attack, stroke, and other serious complications through early detection, evidence-based treatment, and long-term follow-up.
This includes comprehensive cardiovascular risk assessment, management of arterial hypertension, diabetes, and lipid disorders, and lifestyle counseling on nutrition and physical activity.
Particular attention is given to patients who have already experienced a cardiovascular event, with individualized prevention plans designed to stabilize their condition, improve quality of life, and prevent recurrence. For this purpose, I use my experience and ongoing collaboration with the Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine (IKEM), and experiences gained during my fellowships at:
- Mayo Clinic, Rochester, USA
- University of Utah, Salt Lake City, USA
- Hôpital Européen Georges-Pompidou, Paříž, Francie

When should you schedule an appointment with us?

I experience any of the symptoms:
- Constricting or pressure-like chest pain, which may feel as if something heavy is pressing on the chest and can spread to the neck, jaw, shoulders, back or arms
- Shortness of breath, especially during physical activity or when lying flat
- Palpitations, such as a racing, irregular or pounding heartbeat, or the sensation that the heart is skipping beats
- Swelling of the lower limbs, including ankles, feet or legs, which may worsen in the evening or after prolonged sitting or standing
- Loss of consciousness, fainting or sudden dizziness, sometimes preceded by nausea, sweating or blurred vision

I don't have any symptoms, but:
- There is a family history of cardiovascular disease, such as heart attack, stroke or sudden cardiac death at a young age
- My blood pressure is not under control
- I have high cholesterol levels
- I have had a heart attack or a stroke
- I have a congenital heart defect
- I have a valvular heart disease
